Things I Miss. . .

Robert and Ruby
A pointer named Two
Granny’s biscuits
Papa’s sense of humor
Figs, plums and hot peppers, picked fresh from the yard
The front porch swing
An old black upright piano
A light you turn on by pulling a string
An old claw foot tub
An old black rotary dial telephone
The train
Green Street
A rusty bell by the front door
A slamming screen door
The Price is Right (with Bob Barker)
Tussy cream deodorant
A bowl of fake fruit, especially the rubber grapes
Fish fries
Denim overalls

Pigeon and Bill
A husky mix named Diamond
Dirt roads and wooden bridges
Barbed-wire fences
Rocky Sinks
The old house
Bitties under a heat lamp
The fish pond and old bread
The little house
The old basketball rim with no net
Picking tomatoes
Hiding Easter eggs
Pretty bird
A freshly-powdered bottom after bath time
Nehi soda with an ice pick hole in the bottle cap
Paint by numbers on TV trays
An old blue Chevy pickup truck
Slopping the hogs
Bottle-feeding the calves
Gospel music from the old radio on Sunday mornings
The smell of granddaddy’s aftershave mixed with the smell of shoe polish
Sleeping with grandma
Shucking corn and hulling peas in red plastic washtubs
Hee-Haw
The big old tree out back
Watermelon and blackberries
Electric blankets
The old breadbox
The big freezer
Granddaddy’s recliner

  2. LOVE THIS!! I got emotional because several things remind me of my grandparents who are also in heaven. i miss them all so much. The little things are so important...sometimes the details of life we don't pay attention to till they are gone. Thank you for helping me remember.
